Shredders

The average garden generates a large amount of waste throughout the year, much of which has traditionally been burned as the most convenient form of disposal. However the environmentally conscious gardener knows that this is not only bad for the atmosphere, it is also a waste of natural composting material.

Models come with various Watt motors which can enable shredding of branches up to 35mm thick. The Atco model for example uses a cutting drum system that revolves at 40rpm and is extremely quiet (significantly less noise compared with a traditional impact blade shredder). It comes with a strong fabric bag conveniently positioned by the integral bag hooks.

The unique shredding action has the advantage of self fee, automatically drawing in the material, reducing the manual feed time and increasing throughput. Reverse running and the blockage release system makes for easy clearing without needing to dismantle the hopper.

The shredded material undergoes a “cut and crush" action producing small fractures in the chippings to allow access for micro-organisms and oxygen to accelerate the composting process. The shredded material can be used as a course layer in a compost heap or alternatively, shred and spread directly onto borders to provide a moisture retaining, weed suppressing layer.
